Cote d’Ivoire

Energy. Successfully avoided any liability for a West African country in its dispute with U.S. investors over an alleged expropriation and unpaid license, taxes, and fees

Republic of Djibouti

Port Project. Represented political risk insurer in resolution of disputes between the project enterprise and the government of Djibouti relating to the expansion and privatization of the port

Egypt

Solid Waste Management Project. Represented political risk insurer in resolution of disputes between the project enterprise and an agency of the Egyptian government relating to payment obligations regarding the privatization of garbage collection in Cairo

Eritrea

Computer Plant Project. Represented political risk insurer in resolution of dispute relating to expropriation of a computer assembly plant

Ethiopia

Telecom. Successfully defended state-owned telecommunications company in a commercial dispute brought by an American company in U.S. federal court
Jus Ad Bellum. Prevailed on behalf of Ethiopia before an international arbitration tribunal, which, for the first time in history, adjudicated the question of legal responsibility for the start of a war as well as alleged violations of international humanitarian law
Demarcation. Represented an Ethiopia before an international arbitral panel regarding delimitation and demarcation of an international border

Agribusiness. Representing U.S. investors in commercial and expropriation dispute with Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Finance over commercial rice farm and processing facility
Desalination Project. Represented political risk insurer in resolution of dispute relating to the offtake agreement for a desalination project

Wireless Telecommunications. Represented political risk insurer in resolution of dispute among the project investor, the Ministry of Finance, and the telecommunications regulator relating to payment obligations, licensing issues, and service limitations associated with the provision of wireless telecommunications services
